We at Sexpression:UK welcome the news that David Cameron and Michael Gove have agreed there needs to be a changes and updates to sex and relationships education provision in England and Wales. We delighted that the Department of Education is seeking advice from expert groups such as PSHE Association, Brook and the Sex Education Forum (of which we are members). We are encouraged by the recognition that the current curriculum is out of date and does not reflect the needs of young people. We would like to work with the Department of Education to produce a comprehensive sex and relationships education curriculum that is age appropriate, accurate and focusses on providing young people with the tools to make their own decisions. We welcome this end to the Department of Education’s resistance in supporting updates to sex education curriculum. There is an abundance of evidence supporting the need for an updated and wider curriculum that can enable young people to make informed decisions about sex and relationships.
